The main objective with the interior renovation of the main house was to safeguard the historical fabric of Asphodel. In addition, modern conveniences were blended into the house to make it a contemporary, livable residence.
- The interior renovations included:
All the old plumbing and electrical systems were removed and replaced with completely new, modern systems.
- Four modern full baths and two half baths were built into the original structure of the house.
- A highly efficiant and modern geothermal heating and cooling system was installed. This system divides the house into five separate zones.
- A contemporary kitchen with pantry, half-bath, and family/breakfast room was built into the space that was originally the plantation office (the south wing).
- The eight fireplaces, along with their chimneys, were rebuilt.
- Four large bedrooms (including a master bedroom suite), all with large walk-in closets, were built into the original structure of the house.
- An office (or fifth bedroom), a recreation room (or sixth bedroom), and a mud room (with full bath) was created out of spaces formally used as servants' quarters (although still part of the main structure of the house).
All woodwork, plaster, and heartpine floors were restored to their original condition.
- A modern laundry/utility room (which includes a half-bath) was created out of a space of indeterminate original use.
- Modern phone, cable TV, security, and fire detection systems were installed.
- Extensive attention to detail shows up in many areas. An example is the use of imported marble countertops in the bathrooms and kitchen.
