Demolition

The entire back porch is being removed. It was added in the 1950's. The ironwork on the circular stairway was actually just curved rebar.

The floor of the back porch, also added in the 1950's is being removed in order to return the back porch to its original open, two-story, design.

The floor of the front porch, rotted from water damage, was removed. This also allowed easier installation of the french drain. The french drain consists of a 5 foot deep by 30 foot long trench, filled with gravel, running the length of the front yard. It will channel rainwater away from the foundation of the house.

The area underneath the back porch was gutted -- none of it was original. Historical research has revealed how the original back porch was constructed. Reconstruction will be strictly guided by this research.
